Last week, I was super excited to participate in a twitter tasting. This was my first such event, courtesy of Fresh and Easy. Every so often, they invite bloggers and other social media persons to participate in an online wine tasting. They send you a list of the wines that they will be tasting, and then you purchase them (sometimes the store will help you out, as they did this time). The night of the tasting, you log into Taste Live and talk / tweet about the wines as you taste them. The wine expert from Fresh and Easy was also online, so it was great to get his input. We tasted three different “Valentinesy” wines last Thursday.
The first was the Monticadi Cava Semi Seco. It’s a bright sparkling wine. I thought it was just tart enough, without being too sweet. It would be an excellent way to start out any fancy meal. I had it with some bittersweet chocolate and it was fabulous, so I guess it would be a good dessert choice as well. I’m hoping Matt gets some of this for Valentine’s Day this year!
The second wine was an Ombretta Chianti. This wine was very full bodied. I say that like I actually know what I am talking about! ha! I actually thought it was quite tasty, and would be excellent paired with a robust pasta dish.
Lastly we had the Chocolate Shop Red from Walla Walla Washington. I tasted this wine when I visited Seattle with my Mom last year. It is crazy because it literally tastes like chocolate. It starts out tasting way too sweet — and super weird because it tastes like liquid chocolate. However, by sip number two, you are hooked. This is a great dessert wine, I wonder if you could pair it with ice cream??
Have you tried any good wines lately?
