NewlyWife Likes #39

I thought I’d try to make NewlyWife Likes a little more snazzy. I’m not sure that I’ll be able to do this every week, but might as well try when I can, right?

1: You don’t have to wait for the county fair anymore. Use your computer’s webcam to have photobooth fun. (Via How About Orange.)

2: Pioneer Woman has a recipe for the petite vanilla scones a la Starbucks. Love those things. My friend Abigail also says Costco has the best price on vanilla beans, which is 10 for about $12.

3: I am absolutely loving the new site The Everygirl. I know I posted about them last week too, but yes they are that awesome. I loved the article about entryway styling and am anxiously awaiting more styling posts.

4: Who wants to get me this piggy bank? It’s $200 so you may have to empty yours to give me mine. :)

Thanks everyone for your kind comments about our redesign. We’re glad for the new look and excited for what feels like a refreshing beginning. Here are some links that will keep the inspiration train rolling.

  • The Best Thing That Could Happen: Cup of Jo is quickly turning into one of my favorite blogs. It seems like I’m always linking to her site because she constantly posts such gems. This time she’s posted a letter by John Steinbeck to his young son who had just fallen in love. This part is especially sweet: ”Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it. The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it.”
  • Join the Conversation! Have you started reading The Everygirl? It’s becoming a favorite read with lots of tips, eye candy and interesting reads. I can’t just link to one post as a favorite, but I really enjoyed their recent postasking readers to say hello. It shows how conversational the blog is and is great for finding some new blogs to read.

  • Let’s Dance: There’s something about this sparkly dress that makes me want to hit the town for a cocktail or two before dancing.
  • Sweet Velvety Dreams: I saw this via Centsational Girl and loved it so much I had to share it here. I love tufted headboards and this oneis so unique compared to others I’ve seen. And she did it herself!

Have an inspired week!

Does it seem like spring has sprung where you live? This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous with unseasonably warm weather. Sometimes I think I’m part lizard because I can just bake in the sun all day. Instead, however, it was more like spring cleaning was going on in our house. While working on a “quick” DIY project, we hit a wall, a bowed wall to be exact. Trying to even this out led to the second coming of the dust bowl in our house. Every inch of our house has a fine dust on it, despite our best efforts to control it. Remember how I cleaned the bathroom last weekend? Yeah, that room was hit the worst and I was literally washing the walls. It even got inside the closed cabinets!

Anyway… I’ll share more of that story with you next week (I hope!) but in the meantime let’s focus on fun things like spring and not dust, shall we?

  • The Perfect Life: Do you find yourself wishing for a more perfect life? I think Natalie from Nat the Fat Rat has found it. Perfection is loving the life that you have created, enjoying the chaos, unpredictability and stains. We can all take a cue from this sweet post to appreciate how blessed we are.
  • Because Dr. Seuss Says So: Leading off of the above, I thought this Dr. Seuss print by Den 10 Studio is perfect. Maybe for a nursery today. (Mom, there’s no news to announce! Just thinking ahead…)
  • Sheep, My Girl Says: I’m always tempted to snag a few sheepskins from Ikea, but I stop myself because I think I’m not cool enough to casually throw one over a chair. Maybe I also get caught up in how else I could use one. Well, Karen from The Art of Doing Stuff to the rescue with Five Ways to Use a Sheepskin.
  • Insert Drool Here: My friend Andrea made a killer flatbread with prosciutto, gruyere, arugula and carmelized onions and a stop motion video of making the flatbread, too! I can’t wait to make this. You should too!
  • Hurry Up Summer: That’s the name of this outfit mood board, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve always felt that I couldn’t pull off the maxi dress trend, but this outfit may have changed my mind. This makes me dream of going to a tropical locale, sipping tropical drinks and enjoying tropical sights. Can you tell I’ve been dreaming of a vacation?

Happy surfing and spring cleaning, everyone!

I know I already talked about my visit with my nephews last week, but I just had to share these photos with you. I am one proud Auntie Em. At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to be called that, but these little guys can pretty much call me anything they want. I miss them so much already!

Back to the best of the web this week…

  • Fabulous and Free: Need a font? Check these out. Thanks to Frog Prince Paperie for featuring them!

  • Almost That Domesticated: Do you make jam? I would almost try so I can use this jam label generator found via How About Orange.
  • And the Oscar Goes To: How cute are these Oscar cookies? I’m a little late in showing these to you, but I couldn’t wait a year to feature them or Camille Styles’ party genius.
  • Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink: Dear celebrators of Present Day (namely my husband Matt, who invented the “holiday” when we were dating), I would like you to take a gander at this and consider me. If not that, then maybe I’ll go ahead and celebrate Treat Yo Self 2012.  (Also, how many times can I link to that video? I heart Parks and Rec, Tom Haverford in particular.)

What would you do on Treat Yo Self Day 2012?

Are you feeling the love today? I hope you are! In case you’re feeling panic about Valentine’s Day, might I recommend the iPhone app Red Stamp. I’ve used it to send personal virtual cards today. So cute and so free! See for yourself!

Anywho, back to the Likes for this week…

  • Red Carpet Ready: I’m not one for awards shows, but I have always liked watching the Academy Awards. It’s mostly about the fashion for me because it’s rare that I’ve seen all (if any) of the movies up for big nominations. (Although, I would like to see The Artist and we did catch Hugo and loved it.) Instead of snoozing through acceptance speeches, check out this Oscar ballot and bingo game from How About Orange.
  • Just in Vase: I realized that I am somehow collecting clear vases that I’m not nuts about. You know those generic ones that usually go with really long stemmed flowers? Anyway, instead of getting rid of them, I want to paint them like with this tutorial.
  • Perfect Paint: Speaking of paint, I have been asked a few times to help pick the perfect paint color. This is a tough task because you might not know what people would want and they often don’t know how it would translate into a room. Not to mention, it’s hard when you don’t agree with their choice but don’t want to make them feel bad and then they’re bummed with the results … Anyway. I might just refer them to this site in the future.
  • Still Dreaming… As the day of love continues, here’s some more France love via SF Girl by Bay to go along with my post from this morning.

Until next week!
