Don’t you just love having fresh flowers in your home? These are usually a luxury for us, since I typically don’t shell out money for something to temporary. When we do buy flowers, it’s usually a mixed bouquet from Safeway or Trader Joe’s. By arranging them myself, they don’t look straight out of the grocery store and I can make them into several pieces instead of just one.
Some flowers, like these white chrysanthemums, last a long time. In fact, we got them for our Christmas party that was about a month ago. Don’t they still look great?

I love these mums, especially since they've lasted for about a month.
They are so easy because I just cut them, put them in some stemless wine glasses and boom — you’re good to go. I try to have the flowers be the focus, with a little bit of greenery to frame them.
Next, I got a new glass vase at a garage sale this weekend. I figured it was the perfect time to cut some of the branches off a tree in the back of the patio. It only took me about two years to finally do it. I like the look of greenery and you can’t get better than free!

Free and green, can't beat that!
Tell me, does your home often have fresh flowers and/or greenery?
First, let me say that when I saw the first photo I wondered what publication you lifted it from. It looked really professional! I’m impressed! Second, to answer your question, we don’t have fresh flowers nearly enough. I will splurge and buy cut flowers every once in awhile, but I prefer to forage in our own front, back and side yards to come up with something. We’re just getting into my favorite time of year, because camellias are starting to bloom. I love to cut them and float them in a bowl of water, or stand several in a vase. A couple years ago I planted a flowering quince plant because it has really pretty apricot-colored flowers. Unfortunately it has about 3′ long stalks, and the flowers are at the base. (I thought they’d bloom all along the length.) I’m still trying to think of creative ways to display those.
