Favorite Christmas Movies

Christmas music was the topic of discussion last year. This year, I wanted to share some of my favorite Christmas movies with you. Now, you must know a few things about me before we start this discussion. First, I am a sucker for romantic comedies any time of the year. Second, I love movies that are ALL ABOUT Christmas, not just set during Christmas. Oh yeah, and I am a sucker for cheesy made-for-TV movies. Now that my secrets are out, let’s get started.

First we have The Santa Clause. This classic has been a part of my holiday season for years. I just love Tim Allen as the goofy Santa — denying that he is actually the man in the red suit; and little Charlie is just adorable (although he can get a teeny bit whiny). I have to watch it every Christmas season.

Next, totally cheesy and super chick flick-y, is Holiday in Handcuffs. This stars Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez and totally brings back years of childhood TV watching. Melissa plays Trudie, a stressed out 30-something woman who kidnaps a cute guy (David, played by Mario Lopez) to charm her family. It is definitely made for TV and not realistic, but the family feels real and I like it!

Tim Allen stars in another of my favorites, Christmas with the Kranks. It’s funny watching them try to avoid Christmas and watching the drama unfold that comes along with that. I could not imagine trying to cancel Christmas!

Santa Baby is a fun movie starring Jenny McCarthy as the daughter of Santa who has to go up to the North Pole and save Christmas. Sure, it is about slowing down for the season and numbers not meaning everything, but I’m just really excited to watch the love story unfold between Mary (Jenny McCarthy) and the postman next door!

Last, for now, is The Polar Express. This is an all-digital retelling of the classic book. You either love it or hate it, and I happen to love it!

Others have suggested some movies you cannot miss, but they are not in my top five: Snowglobe, Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and It’s a Wonderful Life. And we can’t forget Emily’s favorite… Mixed Nuts! What have I missed? What can you not go through a holiday season without watching?

  1. White Christmas! Got to hear Bing singing his song … and the “Sisters” number :)

I do love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and also A Christmas Story.

We round it out with Donovan’s Reef because it’s set in Polynesia and has an island Christmas celebration … of sorts!

  2. You’ve touched on almost everyone of my favorites too!

White Christmas is also at the top of my list and my new favorite this year is 12 Men of Christmas with Kristen Chenoweth!

  3. Donovan’s Reef and White Christmas are my two ‘cheesy/feel good’ choices for the holidays and the stop-motion Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer always brings back my youth. But the one that always makes me feel like its really Christmas is the original Miracle on 34th Street!
