Two night ago, Matthew and I went to a hockey game. It was lots of fun, but it also made me realize how rarely we go on dates anymore. Sad, isn’t it, seeing as we are only three years in, right? I think part of the problem is that I think date night = money. While that can be true, it is not always the case. A few years back, we went on a free feast.
See those coupons? They were all of the “freebies” from the entertainment book (a gift from Matt’s grandpa). That made our night absolutely free (actually, I just read that we paid 72 cents for our meal because Matt just had to have cheese on something!).
That is the whole of what we ate (2 Chili Dogs from Wienerschnitzel, 1 taco from Del Taco, 2 Famous Stars from Carl’s Junior, one salad and one quesadilla from El Pollo Loco, and 2 honest teas from Matt’s parents). It was definitely not a healthy meal, and we felt kinda crappy after, but it was a fun memory. We drove up the Boulevard (they had all of these fast food places in one spot) and got each free item, ending at an outdoor eating area in the shopping center. If you want to read more about it, you can check out my original blog post (from 3 years ago)!
Have you ever done anything like this? What are some of the cheaper date ideas that you have come up with?

We have gone out to the Berkeley Marina. At the northern end there’s a little park and people fly kites there because it’s pretty windy. It also has a beautiful view of the Golden Gate bridge straight across the bay. We’ve gone there and taken folding chairs and a picnic dinner at sunset. With or without fog, it’s a fun spot. (Without fog, the view is spectacular!)
I don’t want to be picky but I do believe the coupons came from Matthew’s mom. This month you can go to select museums for free for Bank of America cardholders and Baskin Robbins has a BOGO for an ice cream cone. Starbucks is offering a free coffee to anyone who brings in a travel mug on April 22. There are many free things for dates if you scour the internet.
Bringing our own mugs and tea to Starbucks and asking for hot water and a scone
Then we play scrabble for hours! Love date nights! Matt and I try and have them once a week!!! Even if it’s just playing the Wii or going on a walk!
Gotta love free
I haven’t really ever been to a hockey game and kind of want to go!
What fantastic ideas! And you are right, some of those coupons were from Matthew’s Mom! And Monique, you definitely have to go to a hockey game. They are sooo much fun! We love going to Ducks games, but it is super expensive!
