Remember when I was going on and on about grill packs a couple weeks ago? Well Matthew and I bought some grill packs last week for a simple barbecue with his parents. It feels like summer here in So Cal (or at least it did last weekend, it is now cold and rainy again) so a barbecue was in order. We purchased 2 different types of grill packs, just because we love them so much!
And you know what else I love — their marketing. Tonight, Bobbi and I are headed out to their headquarters for the unveiling of a new line. It’s called Eat Well and it is prepared meals with lower sodium and calories than the prepared meals they currently have. I just bought my first prepared meal from them last night — but that is a story for another day! Anywho, back to our weekend barbecue story.
The lower pack in the picture, the “red hot grill pack,” is 4 lbs of super spicy chicken and some really hot sausage. Total cost: $7.99. The upper 2 tubs are one grill pack, the regular type. There is chili citrus chicken, 4 burgers and 4 sausages; 4 lbs and 11 oz of meat. Total cost: $9.99 That’s a pretty dang good price for getting meat that can go straight to the grill. And it’s fresh (duh), so you can freeze extras.
When we BBQ, we like to have veggies or other things cooked on the BBQ as well. Lonnie and Lauriana taught us to make these super awesome and super easy potato packets for the grill. You just slice potatoes and onions and throw on a piece of foil. Top with butter and spices (I use my Sweet & Spicy Seasoning Mix) and fold into a packet.
That’s a lot of salt, oops! haha. Here is our food, ready for the grill. And that dish, well it was a gift from my grandma. And it can go from the grill to the oven to the fridge, pretty awesome. We did not use everything from the grill packs (one pack is enough for 4 people), just some of the chicken from each. I also made a garlic bread packet. (Cut loaf in half, horizontally, spread on butter and garlic powder, then closed and wrapped in foil).
Put it all on your old school Weber. If the flames get too big, just use a squirt bottle to tame them, and get cool picture of shooting sparks.
Don’t let hubby get burnt by the fire (or inhale too much smoke)!
The complete meal. We also bought some barbecue pasta salad from F&E — but it wasn’t my fave. It just didn’t taste right to me. Something was off. Don’t forget the wine from TJ’s.
[No, we are not getting paid by Fresh & Easy to endorse their products, I just really like them. And I can find killer deals there. Like 6 pounds of oranges for 50 cents. Or meat that is on it's last day at 1/2 price. They did, however, give me a gift card in my swag bag at the focus group. But that is the extent to any handouts.]
