How To: Use a Charcoal Grill

Remember when Emily showed us how to use a gas grill a few months ago?  I was inspired to show you how to use an old charcoal grill, if that is what you sport — like me!  Ready to go?

Load up your charcoal chimney with newspapers (on the bottom part) and squirt on a little lighter fluid.

Flip it over and fill with charcoal and top with a bit of lighter fluid.

Light the bottom with a match.  The paper on the bottom will burn into the coals and get them nice and red.

Let it burn!

See how they are getting red and coalish?  Yes, I know, great terminology.

If you have not cleaned up the grill yet, this is a perfect opportunity to do so.  You want to brush the nasty grimy grill stuff off.

Pour those lovely coals into the barbecue.  See how they are red?  That is what you want.

Put your food on the grill.  Start the chicken first and then add the burger patties.  You will do your zucchini last — they take like 3 minutes.  What you see is zucchini sliced into spears and then marinated in balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. Yum!

Now, admire your nice assortment of meats and veggies as they cook.

When everything is cooked, serve it up and enjoy! The final product was very tasty.

Do you have a charcoal grill?  Any tips to share?

Actually when you use the tower you don’t need to add lighter fluid. Talk to Glenn and he can show you how to do it without the lighter fluid if you want.
