Poll: Doing the Dishes

[source]

My hubby and I have a really hard time with getting the dishes done.  We have a dishwasher, and we have no problems running it. Unloading the thing is the big problem for us.  We run it and then forget to unload it and get busy and the next thing you know, dishes are stacked all over the counter. It’s like a bachelor pad sometimes. I was thinking about that this morning as I unloaded the dishwasher.  I kept avoiding it because it would take forever, but you know what, it only took about 4 minutes!  That’s it!  I put a few dirty dishes in and felt much better about the state of our kitchen.  If only I could remember that when I’m in a rush!

Are you timely when it comes to doing the dishes?

I debated my answer to your poll but settled on “kinda.” We’re not ones to leave dirty dishes around, unless something will be easier to clean after an overnight soak. And we do leave things to dry in the drainer, and put them away the next day. So there are usually a few dishes around. I think nobody but Terry can answer “yes” to your poll. She is impressive! That woman can wash, dry and put away a glass before it’s actually been set down by the sink. I am a slob in comparison.

I can totally relate!! Our kitchen is a mess with dishes! It’s been doubly hard with a newborn to get them done. And when I have a free moment, the last thing I want to be doing is the dishes!

I wish we were better about doing the dishes on time. I’m with you Megs in not wanting to put them away. It really doesn’t take that long to wash or put them away. Yet that doesn’t always seem that way when I have to do them.

Neatness is really the lazy way to get things done. Think about it. A dirty dish goes into the dishwasher and you have handled it once. To let it sit around you have to keep looking at it, move it out of the way to make room for other clutter etc. Besides, a dirty dish attracts who knows what and I am not a fan of who knows what. Put it in the dishwasher once, press the button and empty it. By the way you can get the unloading time down to about a minute if you have help! Now you can move on to more fun things in life like crafts. Love you all.
