Want to know if your relationship can stand the test of time? If you can be content with watching TV together most nights for the rest of your life, you’re going to last!
Of course, that’s not a serious test, but it is sure helpful. While it’s not my favorite fact about us, we do watch a few hours of TV most nights of the week. This past week was especially trying for us, so it’s nice to escape. Even if it’s something the other one doesn’t want to watch, it’s nice to just be together, ya know?
Just for fun, I thought I would share some of our favorite shows. It should be known that we love reality TV, mostly because they’re competitive and silly, both characteristics that describe us very well.
- The Amazing Race
- Big Brother
- Top Chef
- Jersey Shore
- The Bachelor
- So You Think You Can Dance
- Real Housewives of OC/NYC/ATL/whatever (OK, that’s mostly my show!)
- Modern Family (Update: I can’t believe I forgot to say it, although it’s mostly my show, not “ours.” But it’s definitely on my DVR!)
- Most anything on HGTV and DIY networks
Of course, there’s always the non-reality shows that we love that are mostly comedy.
- The Office
- Parks and Recreation
- 30 Rock
- NBA/MLB/etc. (That’s definitely more Matt’s type of programming…)

He used to refuse to watch reality TV until I introduced him to
Television Without Pity recaps. Now we watch trashy reality TV pretty much every night and then read the recaps out loud. The Jersey Shore ones are the best.
Have you seen Modern Family? If not you MUST! We’re also loving Mad Men, though we don’t have much time to watch!
We like to watch HGTV too! Our favorite show is Holmes Inspection. They always show the worst possible scenarios of problems missed during the initial home inspection and of course they show the house being fixed up correctly. It gives us ideas to fix up our house when we finally get one and things to look for while looking for a house to buy. Other quality time activities that we like doing include riding our bikes, hiking, and watching movies.
Modern Family is our #1 pick. Sometimes he will watch Grey’s with me. We watch Amazing Race, the Office, Hawaii Five-O, House, and probably a few more I can’t think of right now
We love the Office too, but 30 Rock is probably our fave right now. If we had cable, we would probably watch HGTV a lot! We also love BBC nature stuff, like Planet Earth — so good! Has to be the BBC version though!
I can’t believe I forgot Modern Family! I added it as an update. It’s more my show than Matt’s, but it’s so hilarious.
