Where Do You Get Marriage Advice?

When looking for words of wisdom for wedded bliss, I usually turn to my parents and my close friends. You know, people who are doing their best to build a strong relationship. I never really considered asking cheaters and/or mistresses.

But that’s what Women’s Day did in this article on Glo. As they say, before you “recoil in horror” it could actually be helpful. Here is some of the advice they share:

  • Pay Attention to Him: This is actually good. I’m guilty of treating Matt like a roommate more than a husband. I talk about schedules, bills and spending time like it was a business relationship instead of a love-filled extravaganza. Yeah, maybe it’s not all pink hearts all the time, but it’s important not to get caught up in the daily grind.
  • Talk Out Issues: Early on I learned that pouting and expecting Matt to know why I was upset was a bad idea. Cut to the chase and work it out instead of letting problems get out of hand.
  • Be Appreciative: It’s easy to expect your guy to do things and not be grateful for the hard work they do. Of course, this is important to go both ways. It goes back to the ole’ 90/10 rule.

You can read the rest of the article for their advice. While it’s not totally without merit, I think I’m going to stick with my normal advisers. Plus, some of this stuff is nothing new. Repeating good (basic) advice doesn’t make the person any wiser!
